Cardiac Screening  2nd Appeal

Place are Still available for 1 st round Accessments

Round Towers have successfully Lodged of Request in regards to Cardiac Screening

Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2012

County Board Response :

Further to a number  of inquiries from Clubs in connection with cardiac screening. Round Towers have  been in touch to say that a company called healthy hearts would be interested in  screening players from 14 years up.
In order for this to  be successful we would need a minimum of 40 players to commit.  The cost  would be €45.00 per player.  We feel that this would be a very worthwhile  exercise particularly with all the issues that have arisen over the past  months.
We would make Hawkfield available for the screening.
Could you please let me know as soon as possible if you have players who would be interested in  availing of this screening programme.  If the interest is there we will be  able to arrange the screening reasonably quickly.
Mise le  Meas,
Caitlin  Ui Neill Runaí Kildare County Board
All Interest or Enquires by Round Towers Members to be lodge with Club Secterary Mary Donnelly or Children’s Officer Dave Donohue

Under 16 Division 2 League

 Round Towers 4-8 Maynooth 0-9

layed in Round Towers Saturday 9th March 2013

After an even first half, two quick Matthew Kelly goals 10 minutes into the second period eventually put some daylight between the teams and after this Round Towers kicked on and never looked in danger of losing their unbeaten tag after 3 games in the league.

Maynooth opened the scoring within the first minute but Towers replied straight away and the teams traded 2 more points before Towers Matthew Kelly grabbed his first goal after a good run and low shot into the corner. Maynooth added 4 points without reply to edge ahead before Matthew Kelly hit an equaliser with a disputed point that went over the top of the points post.

Half Time-Towers 1-3 Maynooth 0-6.

Matthew Kelly continued his rich vein of form straight after the break with a sweetly struck 45. Maynooth equalised again before Brian Donohoe had his third point for the host team.Immediately Matthew Kelly added his second goal. The black and ambers won a 45 within a minute and Kelly struck again when his good connection  flew into the top corner of the net.He added another point 7 minutes later before Maynooth responded with two points.Brian Donohoe with a free and Matthew Kelly maintained Towers margin.A very late Jesse Moore goal which was bundled over the line extended the winning total.

Round Towers 3-17 Eadestown 0-8

Played in Eadestown Saturday 2nd March 2013

Round Towers under 16′s continued on their winning ways with a big win over an Eadestown team that had beaten them when they last met in the under 15 league in  October 2012.The visitors started sluggishly letting  Eadestown dominate possession early in the game when they went 2 points to no score up within 4 minutes. But once Round Towers got into their rhythm they slotted over 1-5 without reply before the sky blues added their third point after 22 minutes. After this  Eadestown outscored Round Towers 3 points to 2 before the half time whistle to leave the score at the break Round Towers 1-7 Eadestown 0-6. The black and ambers chipped away adding 4 more points before Eadestown replied on 9 minutes. Two more points for Round Towers followed before Matthew Kelly put the final nail in Town’s coffin when he converted a penalty after being hauled down himself. Another 1-3 for the visitors including another Matthew Kelly goal to give him a hat trick was followed by Eadestown’s second and final score of the second half. Round Towers finished the scoring just before the end with a point.

Round Towers now play Maynooth at home next Saturday 9th March at 4pm.

Round Towers 6-17  Castledermot 0-00

This match was played in blizzard like conditions and unfortunately Castledermot only had 13 players due to injuries and other reasons. Round Towers played with their two extra players in defence so Castledermot with easily outnumbered up front and couldn’t sustain any prolonged pressure although they started brightly and could have had some early scores on the board but for some wayward shooting . The referee called a halt a bit early as the home side had got on top and there was only going to be one conclusion.

 Minor Division 1 League

Sunday 17th February 2013

Played at Round Towers

Round Towers 1-9 Kilcock 1-9

A fair result in the end with both teams settling for a draw after winning their opening matches last week. On a fine dry spring morning a stiff breeze blew towards the railway goal on the new pitch. Round Towers had the advantage of the wind in the opening period but proceeded to hit 8 wides before the break mostly from over hit passes. The home teams full forward  Aaron Mc Conville had a great chance of a goal with 3 minutes on the clock but he drew a brilliant save from the visitors keeper Aaron Mc Hale after a mix up in the Kilcock defence. Kilcock opened the scoring with a free from corner forward Conor Byrne with 5 minutes gone on the clock. Kilcock increased their lead to two 3 minutes later. Round Towers replied within a minute when Aaron Mc Conville pointed.Centre half forward Evan Flynn who had an excellent game levelled up the score on 12 minutes. The green and gold’s then inched ahead with a Cian Mulhall score before Evan Flynn levelled again. Matthew Kelly scored a peach of a point with the outside of his left foot from an near impossible angle after 20 minutes for Round Towers with Evan Flynn stretching the Black and Ambers lead to 2 a few minutes later. Round Towers were then rocked with a break away goal from midfielder Darren Acton seconds later. Mark Byrne Round Towers towering midfielder hit a fantastic equalising point with his weaker right foot 3 minutes before the break. Corner forward David Gammell insured the hosts interval 1 point lead with a nice point just before the whistle.

Half time score Round Towers 0-7 Kilcock 1-3.

Kilcock edged ahead with points from Conor Byrne and Willie Bright after 7 and 8 minutes of the second half. Matthew Kelly then equalised immediately for Round Towers before a run of three straight points from Conor Byrne with 2 (including 1 free) and a free also from Willie Bright .At this stage Kilcock appeared to be in the ascendancy, mastering the advantage of the stiff breeze. However a game changing incident happened a minute later when a Round Towers free which fell short and was not cleared promptly by a Kilcock defender, handed the initiative to Matthew Kelly who was lurking close by for the block, which resulted in the attacker blasting to the net from close range. This seemed to raise Round Towers confidence and Matthew Kelly regained their lead with a free from the ground after 21 minutes. It was end to end after this and Kilcock scored the equaliser 4 minutes from time courtesy of full forward Ronan Mulligan. Both teams were glad when referee Seamus Mc Kiernan blew for time as neither deserved to lose this fascinating game.
Round Towers-Jonny Murphy,Ronan O’Connor,Tadhg Meaney,Mike Joyce,Cathal Daffy,Niall Fleming,Scott Critchley,Mark Byrne 0-1,Craig Morris,Aaron Purcell,Evan Flynn0-3,Michael Murphy,David Gammell 0-1,Aaron Mc Conville 0-1 and Matthew Kelly 1-3.

GAA / GPA / OPRO Mouthguard Launch

The compulsory wearing of mouthguards in all underage grades up to and including minor for Gaelic football matches and practice sessions came in to practice on January 1 2013.

In addition, from January 1 2014, this rule will apply to all players at all age grades. The move to make the wearing of mouthguards obligatory reiterates the Association’s long-term commitment to player welfare.

Research figures indicate that Ireland has one of the highest rates of sport-related oral injuries in the EU, with one third of all adult dental injuries being sports-related. In many sports such as rugby and hockey, the wearing of gumshields is the norm with nearly all Clubs adhering strictly to a ‘no gumshield – no game’ rule.

Significantly, if a player refuses to comply he can be sent-off and players will not be covered under the GAA Player Injury Scheme if they are not wearing a mouthguard.
